Elton John recently picked up a monumental NHL assist, a helper much bigger than hockey.

Last month, 19-year-old Nashville Predators prospect Luke Prokop became the first player under NHL contract to come out as gay. The next day, he received a phone call of support from the legendary singer-songwriter.

“He congratulated me, just asked me how the day was, how the support was, and then he thanked me for being brave and coming out,” said Prokop, a defenseman.

“It was really cool for someone to do that kind of really outside of the hockey world. To see someone that big, that famous, who has a humungous impact on the LGBTQ+ community to reach out and phone me and thank me for being brave and coming out and being able to help kids going through what I went through and allowing them to have someone to look up to, in a sense. He thanked me for that. I don't think I'll ever truly understand how cool that was and how important that was that he called me."

When I got my start in PR in 1990, my boss was Elton’s longtime publicist. Over the years, I worked a couple of his epic Academy Awards parties, but I didn’t have much interaction with him. I certainly never heard of him taking any interest in hockey. What Elton did for Prokop, and others like him, goes far beyond the game. That kind of class, thoughtfulness, genuine care and leadership is what earned him a knighthood and the deserved title of Sir Elton John. - Rick

Little known fact about Ananda: she’s an extraordinary CAThlete. In fact, her health and wellness routine has inspired my own. Here are the top 10 things I’ve learned from Ananda:

10. Stretch: Ananda stays limber by frequently stretching her back, legs and hips. Her yogic postures are actually quite impressive.

9. Intensity: Ananda plays aggressively and does dozens of sprint intervals daily. Train with intensity.

8. Sleep: Ananda is a great sleeper, which boosts her recovery. Sleep has always been one of my limiters as an athlete and she constantly reminds me to get plenty of sleep.

7. Sunshine: Ananda soaks in the rays on the balcony, getting plenty of vitamin D to help maintain bone health.

6. Greens: Ananda munches on grass daily, which adds fiber to her diet and aids digestion.

5. Hydration: Ananda drinks plenty of water from a fountain to stay hydrated.

4. Meditation: Ananda practices the Om technique of meditation, a mantra that can be heard in her purr. Her spiritual practice keeps her calm, reducing her stress level and maintaining her blood pressure.

3. Solitude: When life becomes too much, Ananda slips away for silence and solitude, hiding in closets, on shelves, or under the bed, sofa or coffee table. Solitude keeps her grounded.

Anatomy of the Vibrant Energy kale salad.

Kale: This superfood is packed with vitamin A (eye & bone health & immunity), vitamin C (immune support & chronic disease prevention), vitamin K (blood clotting & bone building) & folate (a B vitamin that fosters brain development). Mineral-rich, this leafy green contains phosphorus, potassium, calcium & zinc.

Carrots: Loaded with beta carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A, carrots contain vitamins C & K along with potassium, calcium & iron. They add fiber to this fiber-rich meal.

It has always seemed cruel to me seeing live lobst

It has always seemed cruel to me seeing live lobsters and crabs in crowded tanks in restaurants or supermarkets with their claws clamped shut. As a kid, it felt wrong seeing a captive live animal getting plucked from an aquarium knowing that it would be thrown into boiling water moments after someone selected it out of its “display case” to eat. I never did develop a taste for lobster although some of my closest friends considered it a treat to order at their favorite upscale restaurants.

Since then, I learned more about lobsters. They have great memories and recognize each other. Like us, they carry their young for nine months and can live to 100 years old. Like us, lobsters go on vacation, traveling more than 100 miles annually.

Lobsters have elaborate courtships initiated by the females, who can store live sperm for up to two years before fertilizing their eggs.

Lobsters shed their shells in order to grow. They chew their food in their stomach and taste with their legs. Lobsters can be right-handed, left-handed or ambidextrous.

Unlike us, lobsters cannot go into shock, which means they can FEEL everything, including when being dismembered alive. - Rick

Finally got a gun and it’s changed my life! Been wanting one for so long and two weeks ago, I finally bit the bullet. My recovery has changed dramatically ever since I got my Theragun PRO. It is absolutely amazing!

For years, I’ve used to use a super hard roller on my legs twice a day (before workouts and in the evening) to loosen up before workouts and bolster recovery after, but the roller does nothing for my back, arms, shoulders and chest. The Theragun allows me to alleviate sore muscles and tightness, dig into trouble spots (like my elbow tendinitis), and speed my post-workout recovery. I also use it quickly to help warmup pre-workout.

While I continue to do one daily session with my hard roller, Theragun is next level and far superior. It’s super easy to use. Wish I had gotten one much sooner! - Rick
