It’s somewhat ironic that although I work with UCLA Hockey players, my biggest press hit to date is actually for an opposing player. But hockey is community and getting Gabriel Zelico booked on NHL Now to share his inspiring story is something that I’m super proud of.
When I made the two-hour drive through Friday evening traffic last month for the Bruins game against Cal State Fullerton, I never imagined what I’d witness. UCLA put up an astonishing 96 shots in a lopsided victory. By far, the Titans’ best player was the goaltender, Zelico, who only yielded nine goals despite the avalanche of shots. Far more impressive was the fact that he plays goal despite a major birth defect that he managed to conceal from our team until the game was over. Watch Gabe tell his story to NHL Network’s Kevin Weekes and Mike Johnson here.
